Lata Tembakah


This is the sign you will see, when you come from K. Terengganu

Located about 20 minutes from Besut town, this is a beautiful seven-tiered cascading waterfall with its highest point reaching 50 meters.

Hutan Lipur Lata Tembakah or Recreational Forest of Lata Tembakah which was developed in the years 1986 are located in the Forest Reserve of Simpan Pelagat in Besut. Which is about 25km from Pekan Seri Langkap or 130km from Kuala Terengganu.


The park is well maintained with many facilities

Lata Tembakah is one of the most famous recreational forests in Terengganu as it is the home of the famous Lata Tembakah Waterfall and are the only forest which are majority and concentrate by the Meranti and Keruing trees.


A timetable gives time and distance to the falls, but it is not very accurate

The Lata Tembakah Waterfall is a 50m high waterfall which formed seven beautiful-tiered cascading level of waterfall that created a unique landmark to Hutan Lipur Lata Tembakah with a beautiful pool on each of the seven–tiered waterfall.

The first waterfalls are actually more like cascades. They have nice, large pools, which make them perfect for family outings. Not surprisingly, this park can be crowded!

Beside the waterfall, there are also many rapids and small pond which are suitable for swimming, bathing and playing in the water. Every visitor including nature and adventure lovers will enjoy the jungle trekking activities along the trek and the overhang bridge. The trek and trail are well organized by the Forestry Department to provide ways to educate people on the importance of conservation of the forest and its effect to human kind.


The first cascade

Being blessed with many natural vegetation and beautiful waterfall, rapid and stream, the area is a great place to have a picnic at with family and friends over the weekend. The waterfall here are beautiful and alluring that you couldn't resist to enjoy a dip in its cold and refreshing river and waterfall that are crystal clear. The small pool and stream will also entertain the many children here as they will enjoy looking and trying to catch the many little fish and little shrimp that swim along they leg and feet.

There are many conveniences that are prepared here like chalet, rest house and camping ground for traveler who want to stay overnight. Many changing rooms and toilets along the river and park can also be found here. Beside that they are also Information Booth, resting hut and many souvenir shop can be found here.



From morning to late afternoon around 5.30pm, you can find many food stalls at the gate of Hutan Lipur Lata Tembakah.



The Recreational Forest in Malaysia are created to let human be close with nature which in the end will create an awareness and mutual respect among us towards the forest and to lead a healthy mind and body to the many visitors that came here.



When you follow the trail along the river, you reach the main fall of the park. It is number 4 of the list.

From this fall you can continue to the upper falls

To reach the upper falls, there are two possibilities. First, you can choose the jungle trail, which is clearly signposted. The other way is to scramble upwards at the right side of the main fall. Interesting but not easy.

The upper falls are also very impressive and as it takes some effort to reach them, they will be quiet even when there is a crowd.
